When worlds collide

Today Sourpuss has been at a conference in that London…
The conference, about public life faith and politics was organised jointly by Christian Aid, Greenbelt and The Children’s Society.

There were more than 200 delegates hearing from the likes of Rowan Williams, Andy Flanagan, Giles Fraser and others… all good thought provoking stuff… perhaps a little bit of preaching to the converted, but hopefully people came away inspired to participate more fully in civil society.

What struck me more than anything else was the session run by the Craftivist Collective (www.craftivist-collective.com) the simple act of embroidering a quote onto a footprint, resonated with me and some of the Lent reading I’ve been doing. This Lent inspired by a session on mindfulness at my last residential I’ve started trying to be more intentional about lots of aspects of my life and have been reading about mindfulness and am beginning to plan how I can practise mindfulness regularly. It was only as I sat on the train embroidering my footprint that I realised I was being mindful… in the present, aware of my surroundings not borrowing worries from the future, but being intentionally focussed and pouring my concentration into the quote I had chosen…

“We must be the change we want to see”

A sentiment becoming more firmly embedded as I sew the words, prick my finger, get buffetted by the train but still…

Being change, intentionally, mindfully, prayerfully…
